Our Programs

At PIER, we believe that every student in the Bay Islands deserves access to a high-quality education that creates opportunities. Our programs aim to strengthen local public schools by supporting teachers, enhancing classroom instruction, and equipping students with the skills they need to succeed. We offer professional development for educators, after-school enrichment, and academic support for youth. Each of our initiatives is based on community partnerships and focused on creating a lasting impact.

Educational Services

In order to meet the needs of the island, we recognize the importance of reaching communities that have minimal access to educational services. From mobile libraries to capacity building amongst local teachers, PIER utilizes a multi-faceted approach to deliver educational services to Bay Islands' children.

Teacher Training

Provide accessible professional development opportunities for educators in the Bay Islands, enhancing their leadership skills to promote quality education through a peer-led approach.

Partnerships

In collaboration with local and international organizations, we will implement teacher training sessions in core subjects relevant to the Bay Islands and Honduras, such as Math, English/Spanish, and Ocean Literacy.

Learning Opportunities

Outside the classroom, we introduce after-school programs and support local youth in gaining better skills relevant to their field of study.

Our Programs

At PIER, we believe that every student deserves access to a high-quality education that opens doors to opportunity. Our programs are designed to strengthen Roatán’s public education system by supporting teachers, enhancing classroom instruction, and equipping students with the skills they need to thrive. From professional development for educators to after-school enrichment and academic support for youth, each of our initiatives is rooted in community partnership and long-term impact.

EIB Reading Program

This training supports Bilingual Intercultural Educators (EIB) in the Bay Islands by enhancing classroom reading programs. After implementing bookmobile services in Roatán and Santos Guardiola using the story-in-a-bag method, PIER introduces this approach through hands-on workshops. The training improves English teaching skills, promotes bilingual instruction, and offers practical strategies to engage students and strengthen literacy while connecting them to their island heritage.

These specialists  lead workshops for teachers in grades 1 through 9, sharing their expertise and innovative strategies. By providing practical classroom applications, they will strengthen the skills of their colleagues and foster an engaging learning environment for students.
