Our Staff
The staff at Partners In Education Roatan (PIER) is a culturally diverse team dedicated to improving education on the island. They bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the organization’s initiatives, including teacher training, literacy programs, and community outreach. By working closely with educators, students, and families, the staff helps create lasting change in the education system. Timna Varela - Executive Director
Born and raised in Tegucigalpa, Timna has been working in the Bay Islands of Honduras since 2012. With extensive experience in educational administration, management, accreditation, assessment, and curriculum development, she has held various leadership roles in the field. Passionate about education, she is dedicated to developing projects that benefit schools and their communities. Her life on the islands has fueled her commitment to promoting initiatives that empower educators and equip future generations with the skills they need to succeed.
William Bassett - Admin Assistant
Will is from England and currently volunteers as an Admin Assistant for PIER through the UK charity Project Trust. Before this role, he spent seven months teaching English in Punta Gorda, where he gained valuable experience and formed strong community ties. He’s developed a deep appreciation for the warmth of the people of Roatán, as well as the island’s natural beauty and snorkelling opportunities. Will looks forward to continuing his work with PIER while enjoying all the island has to offer.
George Bevan - Communications Associate
George was born in England, spent most of his childhood in Belgium, and later returned to England to complete his schooling. For the past seven months, he has been volunteering on Roatán with the British charity “Project Trust,” mainly teaching English in Punta Gorda and engaging with the Garifuna culture. He will spend his final four months on the island working with PIER as the Communications Associate in West End. Alongside a strong curiosity for physics, he also enjoys learning languages, reading, writing, and playing rugby.
Jamaira
Jamaira is a passionate kindergarten teacher from the island of Guanaja and an education instructor at the West End Community Centre. She is known for being responsible, punctual, and honest in all her work. Jamaira loves her job and always strives to give her best professionally, especially when working as part of a team. Above all, she believes that respect is essential in everything she does.
