In 2024, the educación intercultural bilingüe (EIB) initiative hosted a series of workshops across the Bay Islands—Roatán, Santos Guardiola, Guanaja, and Utila—focused on strengthening English and EIB instruction. These sessions provided educators with valuable tools to enhance their teaching practices and better support their students' diverse needs.
A key highlight of the workshops was the introduction of "Story-in-a-Bag," a hands-on, interactive strategy designed to make learning more engaging and student-centered. The books used in these sessions focused on island life and culture, ensuring that the material was relatable and meaningful for native islanders. By incorporating stories that reflect students' own experiences, educators help foster a deeper connection to both the language and the students' cultural identity.
The workshops also focused on effective lesson planning and the design of structured reading cycles—essential strategies for improving literacy outcomes and creating dynamic classroom environments.
Through these efforts, the EIB program continues to support the development of culturally relevant, high-quality education across the Bay Islands. The commitment of both educators and the EIB team is shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for classrooms throughout the region.
"The objective is big. It is critical for children to love reading and open their minds to new worlds through books. Your work is bearing fruit."

"The program is one of major magnitude for the students. It helps bring reading into the home and it is very creative."
