Maths Training

In a continued effort to strengthen foundational learning, the Mathematics Education programme delivered a series of nine targeted workshops across the Bay Islands in 2024. These sessions were designed to enhance the teaching of mathematics by equipping educators with innovative instructional strategies and practical tools for the classroom.

The programme reached a total of 256 teachers across Roatán, Santos Guardiola, Guanaja, and Utila. In Roatán alone, four workshops totaling 28 hours engaged 128 educators. Santos Guardiola hosted three workshops over 12 hours, training 64 teachers. In Guanaja, one workshop spanning 8 hours reached 39 educators, while Utila’s 4-hour session provided training to 25 teachers.

Altogether, the program delivered 52 hours of professional development focused on improving mathematics instruction across the islands. These workshops played a crucial role in building teacher capacity and promoting student-centered, engaging approaches to math education.

As part of this initiative, a Train the Trainers component was introduced, preparing 14 lead educators to deliver similar trainings within their own schools and communities. This approach ensures the sustainability and scalability of the program’s impact by fostering local leadership in mathematics instruction.

This work was carried out in partnership with Summa, whose collaboration has been instrumental in supporting the design and delivery of effective professional development strategies. Through this joint effort, we continue to support educators in fostering stronger numeracy skills and more effective learning environments for students throughout the Bay Islands.
